Statement
Interiors magazines and TV shows sell us the notion of the perfect home, not just as attractive in itself, but also as a measure of a desirable lifestyle and personal success. But what impact does this focus on our personal spaces, and the objects in them, have on us?
These drawings are created using images culled from upscale real estate magazines, interiors magazines and my own family photographs. I use carbon paper to trace images, which are then coloured with gouache paint, and collage to create new and impossible scenarios where landscapes and interiors are intertwined. These become a somewhat absurd commentary on our domestic aspirations and our complicated entanglement with the natural world. (The title for this series, as for each piece, is taken from magazine copy.)
