Statement
In spite of the apparent solidity of houses and apartment and office buildings, we live in a constantly changing built world. Walking past a construction site or a new condo building, it can be difficult to remember what was there before. In this series I use cardboard packaging to create drawings of imaginary floor plans on paper and card to explore space, abstraction and the impact of contemporary development in the built world.
Scavenging from my household recycling bin, I open up and draw around boxes that once contained toothpaste, teabags, soap etc. I then add ink, pencil marks and poster paint to emphasis space, with creating a zone of tension inside and in between the colours.
The spaces thus created resemble floor plans for buildings, or the outlines of houses and other works of architecture that have been removed or disappeared from view.
