Since 2012 I have cleaned plastic debris from the beaches in my home town of Victoria, Canada, and put any debris small enough into a recycled glass jar. At the last count I had over 100 jars.
The jars are strangely intimate and fascinating to look at. People pick them up and peer into them. A conversation ensues about their contents, about the fact that all this plastic debris was found on a beach.
Sometimes, when I don’t have a jar to hand, I make a bundle from the debris instead.
