all the things no longer remembered 2014-15

These pieces are my response to my Mother’s Alzheimer’s.When memory is lost or muddled, past events are called into question. Even the photographs that record family events now seem unreliable. You can hold them in your hand and say “this is what happened, this is how it was.” Or was it?

I have used family photographs, and images from those photographs, and changed or added to them using paint, pen, pencil, photocopying, wax and stitch. In most of these pieces, something of the original image is retained. In others details – specifically flowers –  have become motifs that dance across the page.
